News about RCMI U.S. office staff - Sister Pearl Ma

Pearl was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer over a year ago. She started to have chemotherapy by injections taken every few weeks. In between, she continued with her teaching plus she continued to help RCMI USA in several capacities in the office at Shiloh Church in Oakland, California.

After several months of chemotherapy, she decided to join her family and continue her therapy in Hong Kong. Pearl is the oldest of 7 siblings. She has two younger sisters and 2 younger brothers living in Hong Kong with their families. Her mother is also in Hong Kong. Her whole family is Christians.

After she came back to Hong Kong, she attended Revival Christian Church with her sister. She continued to attend for a few months until her health began to take a turn for the worse. Her feet were very swollen and she was also unable to eat without great pain in her abdomen area. This continued until April 14, she was admitted to the hospital. The doctor said that her small intestines had a hole and were leaking poison into her abdomen. She needed emergency surgery but the doctor said that surgery was not possible because of her weakened condition. He only gave her a few days to live.

A lot of brothers and sisters from all over the world have prayed for and continue to pray for Pearl. We visited her on the Sunday of April 15. She told us Jesus is alive and asked everybody repeat after her. We sang a song of Give Thanks and she followed with us. We went back on April 17 and saw a completely different Pearl. Her countenance was beautiful and she had such peace and a glow on her face and she was smiling. She was very alert and talked with us. This was so different from the Pearl we saw a few days ago who was so weak and could barely talk. The doctor, who is also a Christian, has given her family some hope. He told them that sometimes the antibiotics form a covering over where the hole is in the intestines and yes it was possible that the hole could heal on its own. She is recovering in a miraculous way and is now able to eat small portions of food. Please continue to pray for her for total recovery of her intestines and of her pancreatic cancer. Because she had lost so much weight, the doctor wants her to gain another 20 pounds before he can continue to treat cancer. She returned to her mother’s house from hospital on April 28. We pray that she will be totally healed.
