New academic year New generation of missionaries

Following the start of the new academic year in September, we are extremely grateful to our brothers and sisters for your enthusiastic support of our Education Aid Scheme to ethnic students. Your help has enabled the recipient students to experience God’s abundant love. We pray that these students are diligent in study and in sharing the gospel; always abounding in love for God and for people. May they become a new generation of missionaries to China’s ethnic minorities! May God bless the work of their hands and may all glory be to God!

During the recent summer break, we were in Yunnan conducting interviews and training for dozens of ethnic students. The students had come a long way to meet us; some of them had travelled by boat and land transport. We thank God for guiding and protecting these students on their journey. We had subsequently spent several days with a dozen students, teaching them from the Bible; equipping them in the truth and helping them realize their importance to their own ethnic groups. We hope that the seeds sown in the lives of the recipients will grow strong and result in the spread of the Gospel among the ethnic peoples!

Recently we received word from Sister Yang of Dali in Yunnan, a recipient student who graduated in July. The Lord has indeed opened a door for her in North Africa as preparation for her calling as a missionary. Perhaps some of you might remember that Sister Yang in her letter of thanks on the eve of her graduation had expressed her desire for further study and becoming an interpreter in North Africa. She was then feeling perplexed and prayed to God for guidance. It took her three weeks, from inquiry to confirmation, to know that God had opened a door for her in Africa. Sister Yang has now been in Algeria for more than a month. In her letter to us, Sister Yang said she loved Algeria and was grateful to God who has always provided her with the best. Although Africa is a long way from Yunnan, she wasn’t feeling lonely or helpless because God has provided her with colleagues and friends who take care of her and love her. Sister Yang encouraged us with John 6:35 which describes God as source of all blessings: Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” May we testify His grace and blessing in times of difficulties. May we follow the example of Jesus and stand in the gap at times of need!
