Dennis's adventure 2. His narrow Escape

One time in the nineties, Pastor Dennis Balcombe was serving in Anhui, China with a Hong Kong preacher. Shortly after the night meeting, they were rushed to another town together with some local house church leaders. It was past midnight and the driver of the hired car, overcome by sleepiness, collided with an oncoming vehicle. A thought came to Pastor Dennis: it wasn’t time for him to meet Jesus as he had yet to fulfill his China vision.

Thank God for saving them from a close brush with death though everyone sustained injuries and the vehicle was severely damaged. They were still some distance from destination and it was past 1:00 a.m. in the still of the night. Seeking police help was logical. However, among them were the house church leaders. Pastor Dennis, being a foreigner, had no business to come on the scene of the accident, let alone be involved in religious activities. It was likely that they would come under arrest. So they decided against making a police report or seeking medical help. They just prayed and resumed the journey on foot. With a back injury and burdened with luggage, Pastor Dennis arrived with the team at the town after five hours of walking. Two months later at a meeting in Singapore, Pastor Dennis experienced a total healing of his injured back. Praise the Lord for His power!

We have heard Pastor Dennis talk about death. He says “I’d rather die in China.” This is a declaration of his great love for China, a pledge of dedication even unto death to his China calling! Do we love God and His calling even unto death?
